When Andrew Bryant started writing the music for PRODIGAL, he thought it was completely about the past. It turns out the past is always with us. Bryant’s music evokes a cinematic vision of his boyhood, past friendships, family struggles, religious trauma, and Southern identity.
In this touching and personal documentary by Gerard Matthews, we see a young artist struggle with his place in time (the past and the present) and space (what it means to be an artist in the South). But we also see how processing these themes through music brings a tremendous sense of hope, relief, and joy.
